Marvel’s The Fantastic Four reboot is moving forward and picking up steam as it was announced very recently that casting decisions for the four iconic superheroes would be announced soon. There will undoubtedly be a lot of new faces, and though nothing is for certain, I’m going to go out on a limb and make the bold prediction that I KNOW who the Human Torch is going to be!

Chronicle

Michael B. Jordan

For those who don’t Mr. Michael B. Jordan let me first start out saying that NO, we are not talking about the Chicago Bulls superstar player, but another Michael Jordan who has in fact already played a super-type role and would be most excellent for the Human Torch character.

You can check out a list of Michael’s previous film roles, but the ones that stand out for me is his super power part as Steve Montgomery in Josh Trank’s CHRONICLE, and most recently in the critically acclaimed 2013 release of Fruitvale Station.

Jordan has been tight lipped on the possibility of playing the Human Torch, even holding steady under intense interrogation by David Letterman recently, but there are a few things that lead me to believe that he’s our next Johnny Storm:

  1. He and Director Josh Trank are Tight. If you remember, Jordan starred in Trank’s hit super powered film, CHRONICLE, and has stated on more than one occasion that he and Josh Trank are good friends. In fact, Trank rewrote one of the leading parts for him. “That role was originally for a white guy,” Jordan reveals. “I got it and they changed it. Those are the type of colorless roles that I want, that I’m looking forward to playing.” Chronicle went on to become a $123 million box office success. Not a slam dunk by any stretch but definitely an ace in the hole.
  2. In his latest film, Fruitvale Station, Jordan’s performance as Oscar Grant, a conflicted young man who meets a tragic end in the based-on-true-events film, is said to draw close comparisons to performances similar to heavyweights like Will Smith and Denzel Washington.
  3. Lastly, the guy loves comic books. Who can so NO to that right?

Catch up with Fantastic Four / Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer here.

The Fantastic Four movie reboot is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2015.
