Thanos, The Mad Titan! By now most of you would have watched Avengers: Infinity War, with some of us (Ahem!) having already watched this blockbuster film more than that! The film was great and groundbreaking in a number of ways (besides blowing up the BOX OFFICE), and in one specifically – Thanos, becoming arguably, the greatest portrayed villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So if you want to BONE UP on your Thanos knowledge, here are some resources to help you do just that!
Thanos The Mad Titan
Thanos is portrayed slightly different in the comics than many audiences will come to know him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the theaters.
In the comics, Thanos is an Eternal with the Deviant gene, making him unique and extremely powerful, even among his own kind. Above all else, Thanos loves and worships Mistress Death. Few can equal his intelligence, strength, and ambition for power. During his run in the comics, Thanos has wielded a number of ultra powerful weapons such as the Cosmic Cube, the Infinity Gauntlet, and even the Heart of the Universe. [ComicVine]
In the theaters, his story and objectives are as such – Thanos is a Titan, and he watched his home world die due to a lack of natural resources. There were too many people, but not enough food to feed everyone. His solution was simple, fair and brutal: He would kill half the population by random drawing. The rich and poor alike would be killed according to chance, and the rest of the population would have a chance to live in a world of plenty. [Polygon]
Thanos MUST-READ Comics
If you really want to understand Thanos as a Marvel character, his origins and life, then going to the comics is your best bet. It will give you much more background story (despite his motivations being different in the films as opposed to the comics) than the movies have time for. I would highly recommend at least picking up a few of these. The Thanos character and his interactions with other prominent characters throughout Marvel is rich and very much enjoyable, IF you can find the time!

What Movies Do The Infinity Stones First Appear
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was brilliant (or near brilliant) in its execution of building the Marvel universe, and leading moviegoers through a decade-plus, long story, culminating in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. So where did this journey start? We have the list here!
What we've heard referred to as the 'SPACE STONE' or 'TESSERACT' was first revealed in Captain America: The First Avenger, and utilized by HYDRA to power their weaponary during WWII.
The MIND STONE makes its grand appearance as an 'orb' within the God LOKI's staff, giving him the ability to control others. This was shown in the first AVENGERS film.
Referred to as the 'Aether' in THOR: THE DARK WORLD, the REALITY STONE grants the user power to manipulate matter. At the conclusion of the film the REALITY STONE is given to the COLLECTOR for safe keeping.
The POWER STONE gives the user the ability to harness an immense amount of energy - enough to destroy an entire world if need be. In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, one of Thanos's minions, Ronan The Accuser is tasked with hunting down the POWER STONE, whose plans are thwarted by Starlord and company.
The TIME STONE was revealed in DOCTOR STRANGE and was identified as the strange amulet wore by the DOCTOR himself known as the EYE OF AGOMOTO. The TIME STONE affords it user the ability to control and manipulate time.
The SOUL STONE is one of the more mysterious of the Infinity Stones and seems to give the user the ability to control the souls of both the living and the dead. I am sure more will be revealed in the follow-up film to AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, where the SOUL STONE is first revealed.
