Punisher Dirty Laundry at 5mil+ Views on Youtube

Adi Shankar, was Producer for Lone Survivor [2013] and Dredd [2012] and created the short, Punisher: Laundry Day, starring Thomas Jane as Frank Castle and Ron Perlman [Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim], which is now cresting at 5mil+ views on YouTube.

Punisher: Laundry Day starts off as unassuming and ‘normal’ as any typical day in the city, with Frank Castle, minding his own business and out and about taking his clothes to the laundromat. As hard as he tries to stay focused on the ‘difficult’ task at hand, he can’t help but to take interest in a group of thugs bullying a young kid into running drugs for them. Frank intervenes and all Hell breaks lose. It’s quick, its actually VERY violent, but it’s the Punisher in all his glory. Justice is swift.

Its surprising that such a simple and basic short still holds its ground after all this time. Definitely a sign to the great ‘movie makers’ in the sky that someone needs to reboot the Punisher, and soon! It’s got my vote, and I wouldn’t mind having Adi Shankar and Thomas Jane leading the charge!

Music from Guardians of the Galaxy Getting New Life

If you’ve seen the latest hit film, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, or even if you’ve had the opportunity to come across one the film’s colorful and interesting trailers, then you have no doubt heard the music selection. Yes, they are OLD tracks that will not surprisingly start gaining mega popularity, ONCE AGAIN, in light of the successes Guardians of the Galaxy is having at the box office.

I would definitely encourage to purchase the soundtrack [ here on Amazon.com – Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol.1 ], especially if you’ve already seen the film. Many of these songs are either songs I haven’t heard in like, forever, or never really paid much attention to until now, after seeing the movie. I’m sure many of you are in the same boat. But in the meantime, to help wet that appetite, here are the songs for your listening enjoyment.

Hooked on a Feeling – Blue Swede

Go All The Way – The Raspberries

Spirit in the Sky – Norman Greenbaum

Moonage Daydream – David Bowie

Fooled Around and Fell in Love – Elvin Bishop

I’m Not in Love – 10cc

I Want You Back – Jackson 5

Come and Get Your Love – Redbone

Cherry Bomb – The Runaways

Escape – Rupert Holmes

O-O-H Child – The Five Stairsteps

Aint No Mountain High Enough – Tammi Terrell

See Fireworks Through Drone’s Eyes

Don’t worry, you had me at DRONE, but for those of you still unconvinced just how cool Drone technology is and what you can do with it, just take a look at this July 4th ‘undated’ fireworks show, from the aerial perspective of a drone device, while flying THROUGH exploding fireworks!

Drones are becoming increasingly more affordable to the common man (and woman!) and there is no doubt that this video is just the first of many creative applications we will see Geek’s like you and I, start to put up online for others to ‘Ooooo’ and ‘ahhhh’ about.

The video is roughly 4min long, and with a little classical music thrown in there, but trust me on this one, the visuals are breathtaking before you know it, the video will be over and you’ll be scouring the Web for more.

Don’t Grow Up. It’s a Trap!

Remember that commercial from Toys R Us? How did it go? I don’t want to grow up, I’m a Toys R Us kid! A catchy tune that’s for sure, but a notion I never really paid attention to, until I did in fact grow up (physically any ways), and came to the realization that, you know what? They’re right! I don’t want to freakin’ grow up! So why do we have to?

Why exactly do we HAVE to grow up?

Don't grow up its a trap!Just because we have ‘additional’ responsibilities now, doesn’t mean we HAVE to toss away vestiges of our childhood. Where is it written that once we’ve gotten older, married and even had kids, that we can no longer – partake in a video game session or two (or three…even four); attend ComicCon or any one of the multitudes of Geek-centric conventions; continue to collect comics, toys and collectibles?

I’ve come across long-lost friends, I grew up with, went to school with that I can barely recognize. Not so much because they have a wrinkle here, and a gray hair there, but because they have essentially ‘moved on’ and dumped the person they were, to become something I know they didn’t want to be. Whether it was from a spouse, their professional lives, the life they’ve lived and endured up to this point, they have changed.

I understand. I really do. We are often put under ‘outside’ pressure to appease, be it for a wife or a job, we tend not to want to ‘rock the boat’, after all, we’re not kids anymore, we have to be more serious, more absolute, more of a DICK! That’s what traditionally it has been believed, to be a proper, responsible adult, husband/wife and parent.

I say Bullshit!

I say, we can be both a responsible, ‘ADULT’ spouse and maintain the lifestyle that we have loved from the beginning of time. Take me for instance:

  • Movies. I love movies. I always have. When I was little my mom used to take me and my brother and sister to 2 and 3 movies a weekend (sometimes even within the same day). We loved movies. And even more, sci-fi movies. As an adult, it doesn’t matter if I’m by myself or dragging the family along with me (who also share my love for movies), we see virtually ALL blockbuster films, sci-fi and comic book movies opening weekend. Sometimes even opening night (or midnight show).
  • Comics.I have to admit, I was a huge comic book fan/collector when I was young and even though things have tapered off (mainly due to time constraints to read and sometimes money), I still manage to find my to the local comic shop to grab up a stack of creatively ink’d beauties! My wife tolerates it. As long as I don’t blow the month’s mortgage payment on them, she has no issues with me purchasing and reading comics.
  • T-Shirts. Some people collect shoes, others like jewelry, me? I love t-shirts and not just any t-shirt, but shirts emblazoned with creatively penned art, depicting great quotes and images from film, TV, video games. I love ‘immortalizing’ the best moments in film by wearing my adoration across my chest. They are my prize and joy!

I will admit, that despite my ‘perseverance’ there are a couple things that have helped me maintain my geek’d out lifestyle.

How NOT to Grow Up the Right Way

  1. An understanding spouse/girlfriend/boyfriend. Granted my long-time wife (and girlfriend before that), who has known me for nearly half my life, knows where I ‘came’ from. She knew me when I played D & D and collected comics, so she understands that this ‘life’ is a part of my DNA and tolerates it, without question. An, although she doesn’t grab a stack of comics and sits next to me on the couch for a binge reading session, she has taken a strong liking to sci-fi and comic book film and is just as eager as the rest of us to see these opening weekend!
  2. I don’t care what others think. Watching my kids grow up, and the pressures that often accompanied the transition from elementary to middle to high school, it was interesting to see how important maintaining a certain ‘image’ was for them? Classifications still remained. Some new and some old, from the jocks, to the EMO’s, to the Geeks and so forth. And, my kids, ‘cursed’ with their father’s geek affliction, always tried to ‘hide’ their real selves from the outside world? They were great students and top-notch athletes, so revealing to the world that they loved to geek out on video games, watch Anime and sci-fi was a social ‘no-no.’

I don’t remember having the same inhibitions, but I do know as I got older I started to not give a shit what others thought and now freely discuss, rant and rave about the latest sci-fi and comic book film, comic art, anime and t-shirt design. I don’t give a shit and it’s a GREAT feeling! To have that weight lifted from your shoulders in trying to pretend to be someone you are not and to live your life the way you want, on YOUR terms is truly wonderful.

  3. Routine reality check. Lastly, I don’t let my personal ‘lifestyle’ interfere or take priority over things that really ARE important. Like being a great spouse, a great father and great person. These things should go without saying, and having this reality check from time to time as a reminder that you are not the ONLY person in this universe, helps to set things in perspective and keep you grounded.

In Closing…

immatureBe yourself. Live your life. You only live once. Remember that. We only live one time, so you might as well live it well, and enjoy this one single trip through life. Take it all in, and make it a good one.

Nike Football: The Last Game

The Nike promo turbines are firing on all cylinders, exciting and firing up football faithfuls in preparation for this week’s kickoff of the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brasil, with an animated short special featuring ‘some’ of the world’s greatest footballers.

I love watching the creatives working for Nike churn out magic at the outset of any large sporting event and especially when it involves soccer…er football, since I am an avid fan and player of the sport [in addition to being as Geek as Geek can be!]

In Nike Football: The Last Game, some misguided corporate types [Perfect Inc.] have decided that traditional football players are too reckless, take too many risks and are fundamentally flawed, taking away from the ‘efficiency’ of the game. As a result cloned players are formed and ultimately oust the ‘real’ stars from the sport – Perfect Inc. claiming that it is what the ‘people’ truly want to see.

But Brazilian star Ronaldo is having none of it, and rallies together the world’s best to reclaim their spot in football, by challenging the cloned footballers and showing the people, what football is REALLY about!

Not only a great story and something to really get us excited about seeing many of these stars on the pitch in the coming days, but the animated take on bringing this together is just what us GEEKS like to see.

Marvel’s Hydra Takes Over

FINALLY!! I can confidently state with no wavering or lack of confidence that on April 8th 2014, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finally accomplished what they need to do all along, and that is truly become a part of the entire Marvel universe.

Assuming you have already seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier, you will know that HYDRA, the world-wide subversive, criminal organization dedicated to global domination, had all but destroyed the very essence and fabric of S.H.I.E.L.D. with events that transpired at Triskelion (S.H.I.E.L.D.s worldwide headquarters). Well, one of the questions (and there were many…) that you would of asked yourself after having seen this is, what happens to the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television show, as this major Marvel event should also produce a major shakeup there as well?

And boy did it ever! Not to reveal too much, there were a number of big reveals that went down in last night’s episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Turn, turn, turn.

Agent Melinda May

Agent May
The episode starts off where the last one ended, with Coulsen holding May at gun point, eager to find out why she had access to a secret encrypted line on-board the aircraft. Do we find out why? Oh yes, and it ties into Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Agent Melinda May is as mysterious as she is bad ass, and truly uncovering her hidden allegiances and agendas is still like pulling teeth, so hard to take her at her word or actions even though in last night’s episode we do ‘seemingly’ get some insight into what she was doing all this time during the show behind the scenes. I only hope after the ‘dust settles’ that she remains a viable and productive member of the team.

Agent Garrett

Agent Garrett
Probably one of my personal favorites on the show, surprises us with a HUGE reveal and probably not what you expected.

Veteran actor Bill Paxton has taken the iconic role of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent John Garrett and built this character up into a likeable, tough son-of-a-bitch agent that kicks major ass and asks questions later. If you like this character as much as I, then ‘Turn, turn, turn’ may be somewhat of a disappointment. Sorry.

Agent Grant Ward

Agent Grant Ward
Suspicions and questions still swirl as to why Ward killed the supposed Clairvoyant in cold blood, and last night, things get cleared up (somewhat anyways), and another big reveal is unveiled.

Agent Ward has been a solid team member, confident, sure and loyal, so what gives with his recent ‘lapse’ last episode in walking up and shooting the defenseless wheelchair bound clairvoyant suspect? Well we finally learn why and if you’ve been a staunch Agent Ward groupie, I feel for you…

HYDRA is front and center with their coming out party in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the crossover event that takes place in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – Turn, turn, turn completes their utter annihilation of the once powerful spy organization S.H.I.E.L.D.

I’ll stop right here, so as not to reveal too much. If you want a more complete breakdown of the episode jump over to Entertainment Weekly’s breakdown of ‘Turn, turn, turn’

Let me know what you thought of last night’s game changing episode below. And, oh….HAIL HYDRA!
