Over the last few weeks (maybe longer) there have been a number of short teaser clips, getting us all hot and bothered for the ultimate release of today’s 2nd full length trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy. The trailer runs a little over two-minutes and they pack a lot of new footage in it. See it here.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2nd Trailer Release:
I’m liking Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (A.K.A. Star Lord). In the trailer he seems balanced enough to pull of some serious action scenes bit at the same time probably fill in as the films comic-relief. I’m not as up-to-speed with the Guardians of the Galaxy comics as I would like, and in fact have just started hitting them pretty hard over the last few months, so I can’t speak to how accurately Star Lord is being portrayed. But I like the interpretation we’re seeing on this trailer.
I especially like his opening statement – “I come from Earth…a planet of outlaws!’
Between the music selection on the first Guardians of the Galaxy trailer and this new one, I’m starting to wonder if this is the type of tunes we’ll hear for the movie because if it is, it totally fits the rag tag bunch we’re seeing in the film. The soundtrack could be classic.
It could be me, actually it probably IS just me, but the whole trailer does remind me a lot of Firefly and the film Serenity, with its similar renegade crew off the save the galaxy in one way or another. Just seeing this bunch strut around really has some similarities to Captain Reynolds, Zoe, Wash, Frye and Cobb. Is it just me or do you see it as well?
Marvel in Space
I’ve this trailer several times already and the whole Marvel thing in space could really open up a whole new dimension of the Marvel universe. A lot of folks were (and still are…) skeptical if taking the audience to see Marvel’s more obscure character is going to work. I had some concerns very early concerns as well, but leave it to the masters of Marvel, I am thinking after this trailer that these guys are going to pull this off and BIG.
The imagery is stunning. We get a science fiction – comic book film all-in-one with an added bit of comedy from Pratt (and John C. Reilly) that is genuinely pretty good.
Guardians of the Galaxy opens in August this year (2014)
